Women’s Wellness – Hormones & Anxiety 

Are you finding yourself anxious and worried about even the little things? You didn’t used to feel this way, but now anxiety is affecting your quality of life. Join Renee Fesser, Registered Social Worker at the Joshua Tree Learning Centre for a 6-week group that focusses on women. Learn more about what everyone should know about hormones and anxiety, and what you can do to get relief. With special guest speaker.

Discussion will include topics such as: 

  • What is anxiety? How do hormones impact it? 
  • What makes anxiety different for women?
  • Intro to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – What is it and how does it work?
  • Relaxation strategies and tools
  • Exercise / Diet and Nutrition
  • Holistic Modalities
  • Life balance- self-care and scheduling resources

When: Thursday evenings (July 4 to August 29)

ADULT ADHD Support Group 

Through our meetings, participants find support and encouragement that assists in building self-esteem and coping strategies to help meet the day to day challenges that they may face as adults with ADD/ADHD.

Why go to an ADHD support group?

Living with ADHD affects every part of life and at times can be isolating and challenging. Coming to a support group to share coping strategies and meeting people who are coping with the same issues as you is supportive and motivating. We invite you to join us to meet new friends, share ideas and learn new strategies.

What to expect at the meetings?

Through our meetings, participants find support and encouragement that assists in building self-esteem and coping strategies to help meet the day to day challenges that they may face as adults with ADD/ADHD.

This support group will be facilitated by Stacey Adelman M.Ed. R. Psych.#807

Time: The first Tuesday of every month 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM

Cost: $50 per session

Topics addressed may include: Parenting, Studying, Relationships, Mental Health, Work Accommodations and Strategies

RhythmWorks: Integrative Dance Camp by Tracy Sabo

Join us for RhythmWorks an Integrative Dance Camp that’s a fun way to move and groove this summer! Children will learn the basics of hip-hop dance celebrating children with Autism, Down Syndrome, Sensory Processing Disorder and other learning differences.

The pressures and challenges placed on teenagers can be overwhelming. Join Stefan Endsin, Provisional Psychologist at the Joshua Tree Learning Centre for an afternoon group session that focusses on developing coping skills for teens living with anxiety.

This group will help participants incorporate new ways of developing social confidence, improving communication skills, and reducing anxiety.

Discussion Topics Include:

  • What is anxiety?
  • Identify and reduce unhelpful thoughts and behaviours?
  • Intro to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) (what is it and how does it work?)
  • Relaxation strategies and tools
  • Coping with panic
  • Overcoming negative self-talk

This group will be appropriate for ages 13-15 yrs.

Wednesdays beginning July 10th and ending August  21st
Time: 12:30 PM to 2 PM
Cost: $50/session

LEGO CLUB – Social Skills Group

Does your child enjoy playing with Legos? Would they benefit from building social skills in a fun & relaxed environment?

Explore social learning through Legos and come build with us. 

The Lego Builders Social Skills Group is a collaborative play group designed to teach and help children practice skills related to communication, self regulation, and problem solving skills.

Some of the specific skills your child will learn include:

  • Sharing & Turn Taking
  • Learning & Following Social Rules
  • Verbal & Non-verbal Communication
  • Negotiation & Compromise
  • Express Feelings & Problem Solving Skills
  • Self-Initiated Social Contact
  • Collaborative Work

This group is appropriate for any child who has difficulties with social skills and has been shown to be highly effective with children who are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum disorder or ADHD.

This group will be co-ed and the age range is from Kindergarten to Grade 3.

(We require a minimum of 3 children in this group to make it effective for participants.)

Dates: July 9, 10, 11, 16, 17 and 18 – 10:30-11:30
