This group is designed for individuals who have grown up in environments that substances have been abused. Children who grow up in homes where alcohol or drugs are abused tend to develop common character traits:
- Guess at what normal behaviour is
- Have difficulty following a project through from beginning to end
- Lie when it would be just as easy to tell the truth
- Judge themselves without mercy
- Have difficulty having fun
- Take themselves very seriously
- Have difficulty with intimate relationships
- Over-react to changes over which they have no control
- See approval and affirmation
- Usually feel that they are different from other people
- Are super responsible or super irresponsible
- Are extremely loyal, even in the face of evidence that the loyalty is undeserved
- Are impulsive
In this group, individuals will learn:
- Their parents/guardians/siblings use is not their fault
- Detach with love
- Healthy Boundaries
- Increase Self Worth and Self Esteem
- To identify and express their feelings
- Your body sensations
- Roles of Children
- Finding your own identity
- Coping skills
- That they aren’t alone, that there are other children who feel the same as them
