Individuals who identify as neurodivergent may have a diagnosis of: Autism, ADHD, Intellectual Disability, Dyslexia, Developmental Coordination Disorder, Dyscalculia, Tourette’s Syndrome, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Anxiety, Down Syndrome, Bipolar Disorder, Sensory Processing Disorder, William Syndrome.
How will horses help develop these skills for resilience?
Horses are highly attuned to human emotions and become living, breathing metaphors or stand-ins for the people, issues, and challenges in an individual’s life. They also offer opportunities for safe reflection and compelling feedback regarding fears and anxieties or challenges that individuals may be facing. Horses have a unique sensitivity that helps people understand their own internal processes more readily than what may be achieved in hours of talking. This program utilizes the EAGALA model and is TRAUMA INFORMED.
PARENTS: While your child is in the session in the arena with horses, parents will have the opportunity to gather with other parents in the group around a campfire. This is an opportunity to socialize with parents of neurodiverse children and learn from the people who get it the most – other parents. And….it’s just an evening to relax and enjoy the company of others around a campfire in the gorgeous valley near Lumsden.
