The global pandemic has touched us all in a multitude of ways, and with all of the unknowns, many of us have been struggling with anxiety that goes beyond the typical ‘back to school jitters’. This group is meant to connect parents who are trying to navigate the changes that come with their children returning to school this fall.

Participants will learn to identify the physiological aspects of anxiety, thought patterns, triggers and behaviours that are contributing to their anxiety as well as techniques that may assist with relaxation and a more peaceful frame of mind. This group will have the added bonus of being guided through some creative and expressive exercises that require no artistic skills. Art is often appreciated for its calming effects, and capacity to shift our attention toward more adaptable perspectives and solutions.  The group will be a safe environment for participants to learn some anxiety coping tools surrounding the event of returning to school, and develop the capacity to empower themselves, which will in turn, promote a healthier and better functioning family into the coming school year.

Session themes:

  • Discovering support and understanding experience
  • Coping skills & alternatives
  • Mindfulness & self-care
  • Meaning-making and reflection
