Yoga first became part of my life in 2005 when I began to practice Ashtanga Yoga. I loved the repetition and consistency of Ashtanga in addition to the strength component. Since then my yoga experience has expanded to include Vinyasa flow, Yin Yoga, as well as some Restorative Yoga. I have learned to love Vinyasa Yoga for its dance like qualities that embody each yoga practice. In 2018 I completed my 200-hour yoga teacher trainer in Vinyasa Flow under the guidance of Emma Korkola, and I will be pursuing my Yin Yoga Teacher Trainer in March of 2020 under the same tutelage.
In my view the focal point of yoga is the asana/practice and focus on breath, but I strongly feel through practicing yoga all persons can achieve improved mental clarity which results in healthy lifestyle choices as well as recognizing and appreciating the joy and beauty of everyday life.
Because I believe in the healing power of yoga, I have chosen to pursue a yoga teacher trainer with Ashley Turner, an acclaimed yoga-meditation instructor and licensed Psychotherapist. My goal with this training is to incorporate additional healing modalities into my yoga practice. The Yoga Psyche-Soul course is a 300 hour advanced yoga psychology teacher training and professional certified program approved by the national governing body Yoga Alliance. Much of the study focuses on trauma informed yoga and social justice as well as meditation and breath work practices. Varying healing techniques can be used to promote optimal health and wellbeing for each person.
I look forward to offering private and group classes to clients at Joshua Tree Learning Centre, and in doing this facilitate healing through yoga and its many gifts.
Namaste
